A Professional Development Program
This program is designed to give new knowledge and understanding to people
accountable for the performance of others in their organization; and therefore must coach, manage or lead. We will distinguish what it takes to provide authentic leadership, effective management and powerful coaching… under any circumstance.
We begin this program with an unusual statement:
…consider that most organizations are under led, over managed and coaching deprived… and therefore, we have discovered that the following is true:
- A coach’s job is to increase performance
- Managers translate the future into action by managing conversations and commitments… NOT by managing people
- Leaders take a stand, invent a powerful future, and enroll others
COACHING
Truly effective coaching is hard to find. Coaching deals with increasing performance. Great coaches make the task simple to accomplish and create an environment where it is safe to be “at risk”. They empower people to move from reasonable performance to extraordinary performance. A great coach is always willing to learn, demonstrates compassion and demands excellence and integrity.
MANAGEMENT
Managers translate the future and vision into “execute-able” actions. Management is fundamentally grounded in productivity and results. Managers have more power when they understand how to switch their focus from results to action. Great managers make effective requests and promises.
LEADERSHIP
Leaders are visionaries. They stand for a future that is beyond what’s predictable. Great leaders communicate their vision to others, overcome resistance to change, mobilize resources and manage their own ambitions; so that they continue to be inspiring.
Authentic leadership is distinct from authority or charisma. Authentic leaders are people others want to emulate. Leadership requires a powerful relationship to one’s word.
